The VAT threshold will be increased to 68,000 pounds on May 1 2009.

Higher rate income tax of 40% applies for profit over 43,875 pounds from April 2009.

Losses incurred in tax year 2008/2009 and 2009/10 can be set off against taxable profits in earlier years which could result in tax refunds.

New National Minimum Wage rates from 1 October 2009
